I got married with Yoko on June 20, 1999. Yoko used to
live in Tokyo and works for a company in Omiya, Saitama and I used to
live in Matsumoto, Nagano. In order to live together we move to Ueda,
Nagano on September 18, 1999. Yoko takes Shinkansen Asama everyday
to go to Omiya and I drive my car to go to Matsumoto.
On January 23, 2000, our son
Ao was born. We were totally shocked when a doctor
told us Ao might have brain damage. Fortunately the doctor
was wrong but it was not untill Ao became one year old and
began to walk by himself that we were sure that Ao was
OK. When Ao was one month old I visited Johns Hopkins
University for a month and Yoko was left alone with
Ao. She had really hard time. E-mails from Yoko were
desparate. The problem was Ao did not sleep very well and
kept crying all the time. It turned out that Ao had an
allegy against egg and chicken and he could not sleep well
because of ichiness. We removed egg and chicken from our
dishes and now Ao sleeps well.
I visited Johns Hopkins University again from the
Thanksgiving to Christmas in 2000, but this time with my
family. Ao was just 10 months old. He liked the room of the
apartment we stayed. The floor was large enough for him to
crawl around. During our stay in U.S., we visited the
University of Rochester where I spent three and a half years
to finish my Ph.D. My wife was very curious to see where and
how I lived. It was December and was very cold. But Ao liked
walking around in a stroller in this cold air.
Yoko got back to her job on the one year birthday of
Ao's. Ao now goes to day care center everyday.
